A shared lab for control, autonomy, robotics, and AI.

Founded and directed by Fadel Lashhab, Ph.D., the Autonomous Vehicle, Robotics & Control Laboratory connects research, engineering education, student projects, and STEM outreach in Howard University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering and Architecture.

Our purpose

We help learners connect mathematical models and algorithms with the behavior of physical systems. Digital twins provide a space to prepare; supervised hardware experiments provide evidence to test assumptions.

Four connected units

Control Systems, Autonomous Systems, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence connect complementary methods within one shared laboratory. The AI unit combines visual perception and learning with existing platforms and defines testable directions for student and faculty projects.

Research infrastructure & educator outreach

U.S. Army / DoD support

AVRC research infrastructure

AVRC research infrastructure was supported by the Department of the Army, U.S. Department of Defense, under Award W911NF-24-1-0314.

Principal Investigator: Fadel Lashhab, Ph.D.

NSF Award 2503860

Robert Noyce RESS · RAOP

RAOP is Howard University’s Research Experiences in STEM Settings initiative for pre-service and in-service STEM educators. The program is hosted within AVRC.
